The differences between Nubian skin and Caucasian skin

différences peaux nubiennes peaux caucasiennes

Thanks to a study carried out with Voolpo , an application in which discovery, knowledge and fun coexist, we were able to ask 210 people what their vision of different skin tones was, from Caucasian skin to Nubian skin (black, dark and mixed).

Black skin vs white skin: preconceived ideas and differences

We were interested in the knowledge and preconceived ideas linked to the structural differences between Caucasian skin and Nubian skin. Participants were asked three questions:

1/ There are fundamental differences between Nubian skin and Caucasian skin which go beyond the difference in color and the presence of more or less significant melanin. For example, the stratum corneum (stratum corneum) is thicker in Nubian skin than in Caucasian skin.
Were you aware of these differences?
-No 65.59%
-Yes 34.41%

2/ The idea that black skin is more resistant than white skin is false. The sensitivity of black skin is often linked to the fact that it is dehydrated. Nubian skin is therefore just as prone to imbalances as Caucasian skin.
In your opinion, what are the skin problems regularly encountered by Nubian skin?
- Pigment spots 59.72%
- Acne 25%
- Eczema 15.28%

3/Nubiance is a skincare brand specially adapted for black, dark and mixed skin.
Did you know that there were dermocosmetic treatments specially adapted for this skin?
-Yes 54.22%
-No 45.78%

Our findings on Nubian skin

We note that the structural differences between Nubian skin and Caucasian skin are not necessarily known to everyone. However, the perception of those questioned regarding skin problems (spots, acne, exzema) is relatively accurate. On the other hand, the importance of atopic dermatitis has been underestimated because it is relatively common in Nubian skin. Acne, on the other hand, is as common in Caucasian skin as it is in Nubian skin, but it is not necessarily easy to treat it in the same way.

This is why the development of products specially dedicated to black, dark and mixed skin is interesting. It is indeed necessary to rebalance skin which can be both oily and dry, whose stratum corneum is structurally thicker but which is also sensitive.

Our ACT-5 anti-imperfection treatment was developed with this in mind. It treats imperfections by attacking the origin of sebum inflammation. Thanks to the bakuchiol it contains, ACT-5 purifies and fluidifies sebum in order to rebalance and maintain the skin's hydrolipidic film. ACT-5 helps preserve skin hydration while gradually eliminating spots and imperfections. Finally, ACT-5 also helps prevent the appearance of residual pigment spots due to acne.

Our anti-dark spots treatments from the HRB-3 range have also been developed to address a very specific problem: post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Pigment spots are closely linked to the fact that melanin is more present on black, dark and mixed skin, but this does not mean that Caucasian skin is not affected by this phenomenon. On the other hand, we have developed an anti-pigmentation range. spots specially adapted to Nubian skin to ensure effectiveness, respect for the skin and protection.

In conclusion, the problems of Nubian and Caucasian skin may be relatively similar but it is important to take into account the structural differences to use care products adapted to each skin type as needed.
